Our Awesome Directors

Debra Burton

Debra Burton joined the faculty at John Overton High School as co-director in 2004. She shares the responsibility of teaching the marching band, three concert bands, orchestra, and several chamber groups. She also teaches AP Music Theory and serves the Tennessee Music Education Association as the Chairperson of the All-State Band.


Prior to assuming her duties at John Overton for the 2004-2005 school year, Ms. Burton served as the Director of Bands at Columbus High School in Columbus, Georgia, where she conducted three concert bands, marching band, chamber winds, jazz band, and pit orchestra. She also taught classes in music theory and jazz theory/improvisation and mentored students in music composition.


In addition to her position at Columbus High School, Ms. Burton was also a member of the faculty at Columbus State University.  She received a Bachelor of Music from Middle Tennessee State University and a Masters of Music Education from Columbus State University.

Laura Boucher

Laura Boucher has enjoyed living in Nashville for the past eleven years.  She is a graduate of Tennessee Technological University with a degree in Instrumental Music Education.  She went on to receive her Masters in Conducting from Indiana State University.  Most recently Ms. Boucher taught both Band and Piano at McGavock High School and DuPont Hadley Middle School in Nashville, Tennessee.  


Additionally, Ms. Boucher plays as a free-lance musician and teaches private oboe lessons.  She recently served as an adjunct oboe instructor at Tennessee State University and Western Kentucky University. Ms. Boucher welcomes the opportunity to teach the talented musicians at John Overton.
